Meta Grgurevič / Impossible Machines

We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited monograph by the artist Meta Grgurevič, a joint project of the Marignoli di Montecorona Foundation (Spoleto, Italy), Maribor Art Gallery and Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien (Graz, Austria) has been published. It is a more than 200-page publication created at the first retrospective exhibition of the artist's works at the Maribor Art Gallery (November 29, 2019 - March 1, 2020) and the Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien in Graz (February 1 - 2). April 2020).

The texts in the publication were contributed by Michele Drascek, editor of the publication, curator and contributor to the Marignoli di Montecorona Foundation (text title: Ad Motu Laevitor, Lighter in Motion), Sandro Droschl, director of Künstlerhaus in Graz (text title: Illusions and Visions on a Search for Lost Time), founder of the Marignoli di Montecorona Foundation Duccio K. Marignoli (title of the text: Machines of Desire and Mechanical Performativity) and curator of the exhibition Simona Vidmar (interview: Meta Grgurevič, An Impossible Artist). Like the previous exhibition, the publication is also an important milestone in Meta Grgurevič's creative path, as it offers an in-depth insight into the author's work of the last 10 years.

From Simona Vidmar's interview with Meta Grgurevič:
S.V .: Why are your mechanisms “impossible”?
M.G .: They are impossible from several aspects. Impossible relates to the word amazing, which ancient inventions have always been. They are also impossible due to the process of formation, which is impossibly time consuming. But they are also impossible from a pragmatic point of view - they are prototypes and are always a little unpredictable like impossible children who want to do things a little on their own.

Meta Grgurevič is one of the most interesting Slovenian artists. She devotes herself to the intimate exploration of art in connection with the technology and process of materialization of scientific and artistic ideas, through which she developed a fascination with mechanical systems that create movement, light effects, or illusions. The publication was published in English and is on sale at the UGM Museum Bookstore. The price of the publication is 20 EUR.
