Summer tour of works from the UGM Collection
This summer, the top-quality works from the UGM Collection are touring around museums and galleries throughout Slovenia and abroad! In the framework of the exhibition entitled Faces of Expressionism (1905-1920), in Kutna Gora in the Czech Republic, works from the graphic map of Old Maribor by Fran Stiplovšek and the wooden sculpture by Tone Kralj can be seen. Also in the Czech Republic, on the Prague Castle of Hradčany, the exhibition Impressionism from Dawn to Dust / Slovene Art 1870 -1930 on display is a picture of Ivana Kobilca, a statue of Franz Berneker and probably the most recognizable picture in the UGM Collection - The Girl with the Orange by Ivan Kos . In Slovenia, works from the UGM Collection can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana and in the Castle Novo Celje. At the exhibition On the Edge / Visual Arts in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1929-1941), in the Museum of Modern Art Ljubljana, we collaborate with the works of Zoran Mušič, Karl Jirak and Ivan Kos and at the exhibition Here, Before and Now/ Review of Visual Arts in the 20th Century and Artistic Practices in the Savinja Valley in the Castle Novo Celje with the image by Fran Tratnik.
This summer we started with the new program in Maribor Art Gallery called Under the Magnifier with the UGM Collection, with which we want to go beyond the gallery walls and persuade the audience, who do not rely on the galleries so often. This time we connected with the Arboretum Volčji Potok for Under the Magnifier with the UGM Collection / Hydrangea exhibition, where we exposed the paintings of Henrika and Avgusta Šantel, which depict varieties of Hydrangeas and other summer flowers.
This is what the director of Maribor Art Gallery said about the summer tour:
"The classification of works from the UGM Collection into important artistic and historical reviews and the transfer of Slovenia abroad signifies a great recognition of the quality and visibility of our collection. We are pleased that top-notch works from our collection can circulate among people, although we ourselves, unfortunately, do not have space conditions, so that the UGM Collection would constantly be on display to the local audience. The gap is filled with cyclical layouts of smaller exhibitions in the UGM Cabinet room, while we want to be able to quickly build a permanent collection of a larger scale - just like the UGM Collection deserves."
