International Family Week at UGM
UGM, Strossmayerjeva ul. 6
14–19 May 2024, 10:00–18:00

Why take your children to an art museum? Together with your children, you will discover the Slovenian artistic heritage of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Spekter exhibition features drawings, paintings and photographs with motifs that are particularly interesting to children - animals, families and imaginative motifs, which in themselves appeal to the youngest. Talking about the artworks is also an opportunity for creative socialising. By sharing with each other your views, ideas and associations that the artworks evoke, you will be able to get to know each other in a different way. You are invited to take a walk among the artworks and be as curious as possible!

In order to encourage creative interaction with the artworks and with each other, here are some pointers:

  1. It's good to prepare for a visit to a museum. Read the presentation text on the website and see the photos of the exhibition. Children are excited when they already know something about the exhibition. Above all, they realise that the artwork is really at its most delicious in person. Pre-preparation is completely optional. You can also be surprised.
  2. The artworks are elusive. You have to make time for them. Be curious. Everyone - mums, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, younger brothers and older sisters! Ask yourself: what do I recognise in the picture? What does the statue remind me of? Does what I see make me sad or happy? Why? And most importantly - listen to each other! Together you will see the artwork more richly and fully. And as you share the ideas and feelings that the images evoke in you, you may also learn something new about each other.
  3. There are exactly 259 artworks in the exhibition. Don't bother to look closely at all of them! Pay attention to which ones call to you and pay attention to those. And if it's just one, that's fine too. You might agree to look only for artworks depicting animals, toys, trees or houses You can come back to the exhibition and choose a different theme at that time.
  4. To make your walk and the walk of other visitors as pleasant as possible, follow these rules:
    - Walk slowly, very slowly;
    - Talk calmly;
    - Touch the artworks only with your eyes.

During the International Family Week, admission to the UGM is free for families.
